FIRE INVESTIGATION

Competent fire investigation requires an integration of mechanical, electrical and fire engineering skills. Investigators must be proficient with principles of: heat Transfer, thermodynamics, circuits, fire dynamics, fluid dynamics and combustion.  True Forensics’ investigators have formal engineering educations and have been thoroughly trained in these areas, ensuring the fire scene has been evaluated with scientific accuracy.

True Forensics has mathematical tools to model fires when necessary.  These models can reveal the fire: temperature history, growth rate, time of flashover and other valuable information.   When necessary, we also have the ability to graphically display the temperature distribution of crucial components.  So when a circuit box or electrical component is under suspicion, we can show the expected consequences if the item did indeed overheat.

The figure below shows the process of analyzing a suspicious part. The temperature distribution of the part is predicted using heat transfer principles, then, if the part gets hot enough to ignite nearby items, the expected behavior of the resultant fire is developed using fire modeling concepts.
